Reimagined Landscapes by Bob Cross which depicts scenes from the countryside and edgelands of Essex is currently on for the rest of the month up to the 27th of April at Colchester Library. Lion Walk Shopping Centre, Trinity Square, CO1 1JB
Bob Cross is an Essex based photographer and print maker, he's also my dad. He uses darkroom techniques such as high contrast printing, posterisation, adding textures etc, to create images that speak to his emotional engagement with the rural Essex landscape.
This is my dad's first solo exhibition and I think the prints he has done are vibrant and beautiful interpretations of the local essex landscape. My personal favourites include 'Winter Hare' a photograph of a lone hair which visually contrasts starkly with the white snowy landscape. This image could be interpreted as being symbolic of how wildlife is constantly under threat from an ever changing rural landscape and how isolated we can feel when separated from nature.
The online digital copies do not do these prints justice and need to be seen in person. The prints would make a great present/gift to a loved one or for yourself!
